at the beach...

We got a call from a friend this morning who asked us if we would like to join them at the beach today. We haven't gone to the beach in awhile so we decided to go. Today was absolutely perfect. It wasn't too windy or hot or cold. See how pretty it was? My kids are mingled in with their friends. I just picked out a few of my favorites from today. Enjoy.

cub camp...

Last week Buddy was able to attend Cub Scout Camp for the first time. He loved it all. Camp was held at a local State Park and it ran from Monday through Thursday. One of the days Buddy was able to use his loud and clear voice to call the Color Guard for the beginning of camp. It was very neat to see that and watch the boys reverence the flag of our country.Buddy also worked on projects. He made a sun dial, drinking spectacles (straws attached to glasses that you wear) and he also made this wonderful stool. It is awesome. The beads on top of the stool were earned for doing things like swimming, fishing and cooking.Buddy also learned how to shoot a BB gun and arrows. He came home raving about those. Check out one of his targets from the BB gun shooting. He wanted to include this in the post. The theme of the week was Gizmo's, Games and Gadgets. He learned how to make a sun print and this leaf turned out really neat. Here is Den D. They had a Den yell that went like this:

We are the Dudes, marching proud.
Wherever we go, we're shouting loud.
Keep in mind, we are very cautious;
Don't get to close, or you might get nauseous.
Buddy is very much looking forward to Cub Camp again next year.

fair grounds...

Fair time again. This year both Mom and Dad worked the scone booth for the Scouts. Thursday is also free entry day, which saves us money. Dad arrived with the kids before my shift of working ended and took the kids to see the baby animals (some of which I am allergic to). They came back to get me and we went over to look at the horses. Again it amazes me how proud the kids are to show off their animals. We saw some of the most gentle horses I have ever seen. And then there was one horse that kept whinnying and kicking his stall. He was MAD. But it wasn't this one.I was really surprised to see an ELEPHANT of all things at the fair. She was a middle aged Indian elephant with an extremely good nature. Her nature was so good that each kid was given a carrot and they were able to feed her! We learned some new things about elephants as well. Such as, they live to be about 70 years old in the wild and only have four teeth that renew themselves every few years.I couldn't resist taking a picture of this butterfly that I saw as we finished looking at a display of art that had been judged. Art and canned food.Every year each kid gets to go on one ride that we pay for. Sunshine decided to not go on a ride this year and really wanted to get her face painted instead. She was so excited about it. Can you tell?Dad and Buddy went on a hang gliding ride. That looked like fun once they were up there. I had to remind Buddy to smile. He wasn't scared, he just looked like he was concentrating more than just having fun.Turtle wanted to go on the planes. The seat belt in the was a joke. It wouldn't fit around me or us and it didn't even fit around Turtle! I ended up holding him, which probably wasn't very safe but at least he was able to see better.Dad did a great job at taking pictures. The end of the day we have a thing about getting Purple Cows (here they are blackberry milkshakes) and chocolate ice cream. So yummy. This year they took FOREVER, okay actually it was just about 20 minutes, but it felt like longer. What else should you expect from teenage volunteers?
The fair this year was better attended than last year and there were quite a few more rides to go on. We had fun again, but we can wait patiently for next year to come.

home...

We really like visiting our family, but it is always nice to come home again. Blogger is not being nice to me right now and is being silly with the number of posts it is allowing on the front page.

There were 13 posts in all (not counting this one) from our vacation. I hope you take time to see all the fun stuff we were able to do this month.

outings with jj...

My mom had the very enormous task of cleaning out her classroom at school before the summer started. Most of her stuff came home with her because she thought the kids might like to play with some of the things she has. She was right. The kids played with puppets, matching games, puzzles, and goodness knows what else. This is what happened at the end of a very long day of shopping for school clothes. We also went to Julian. A quaint little town outside of nowhere that is famous for apples, apple pie, apple cider and apple trees. Oh and for PURPLE COWS. Oh, so tasty. I remember going to this drugstore/soda shop when I was little with my mom and grandma. It was nice to have that memory as we were sipping away. And this is what is under the drugstore.Just one of the many historical buildings that are so neat to see in Julian. And at the end of another day, guess who got their cuddle time in. And she loved every minute of it.

outings with grandma hill...

This post is of a couple of the activities we had with Grandma Hill.

It's not fun when you go bowling and a lady comes over and tells you that you aren't allowed to take pictures. What a kill joy. However, not one person had a problem with me taking pictures at the carousel. So I did.Grandma Hill had never had Golden Oreos before. So Turtle and Sunshine showed her how they are supposed to be eaten. And finally miniature golfing. We haven't done that in so long. We had fun, except for the little kid who stole Grandma Hill's red ball. The kids have actually never played before and it was funny to watch them figure out how to use the club. Buddy got it right away, but Sunshine and Turtle never did catch on.This is the kids really mad when I told them it was time to go. They did NOT want to leave. And saying good-bye to Grandma Hill. It was sad for the kids because they won't see her for over a year.
